I remove it from every car I have. I had a 940SE once that had a gradual dying problem. It was intermittant, and after the car died, you could wait a few minutes, then it would run fine again. I had 2 garages tell me it was junk in the gas tank.

Fortunately I tried a new AMM. Upon removing the old one, I found it completely covered in foam. I cleaned it - and removed the rest in the lid - and no more problem.
