Dash Pad Removal 140-160

O.K., George, that's about as far as I got: clips at the bottom that I pop off, clips at the top that I'm not sure how to deal with, bolts that hold up the steering collumn that seem to go through the lower part of the pad. I unscrew those bolts, drop the steering collumn, apply a little heat to the the bottom curled-back-edge, to soften it up a bit, and pry it from behind the lower lip of the metal dash with a bent screwdriver. Do you think that at that point I should just pull back on the whole pad to try to get it off, or should I try to pry the clips that hold the upper part in place out of their holes with the same bent screwdriver first? Or would you suggest I dismantle the whole dash to be on the safe side?
If there is anyone who has actually done this; your speaking up now would be much appreciated -- only a few more days of good junkyard weather left here in Maine. :-(
