FYI, I've always been told that you are never supposed to disconnect your AMM when your car is on. Only when it's off. Why that is I'm not sure.

As for your check engine light, what you did would most definitely trigger a fault code.

Might be something else too. Look in the FAQ under the diagnostic codes section to find out how to retrieve it.
