I remember reading in an English magazine (Thoroughbred & Classic Cars) about uprating Amazons. A specialist reckoned that the Weber's (marginal) extra power output compared to twin SU's did not outweigh the (more than marginal) extra fuel consumption. He therefore recommended sticking to the SU's on road cars.
