Personally I do not have a problem with the steering of my '71. I prefer the way steering goes harder the tighter I turn. My wife hates it and wants power steering, but that's why she drives an '88 240.
And I guess it helps that I'm driving a RHD. There just seems to be more space available for everything, instead of being crammed into one corner. And if you are wondering, my brakes are on the same side as for an LHD, and there is a thick linkage bar running across the firewall to connect it to the pedal.
A really cool upgrade would be to replace the steering shaft with a high power electric motor fitted to the steering box, and go "fly-by-wire"...
