I am one the cheapest, scavenging, make it work, do with out guys to post on here and I would NEVER trust life and limb to a cement block...I would trust the OEM sissor jack (DO NOT DO THAT EITHER) before I would trust a cement block...at least it was designed to lift the car.
If all it does is break your arm...( and it could kill you) it will still be more expensive than a decent set of stands.

When I was a kid a neighbor a couple of houses down was killed when a cement block collapsed dropping the car on him... I forget the details but it can happen.
