Charles,
Thanks for the input. I have heard that replacing the Volvo front end with a Mustang II subframe takes care of the sump location problems, plus allows for the wider engine and allows for Ford discs to boot. Who knows, maybe a guy could get rack and pinion in there too!
Like you, I have some concerns for the overall weight, and I would no doubt gow with aluminum heads, etc with the Ford motor (although I have heard that the 289 only weighs 75 lb more than a B16). I have done two builds on the venerable 302, and frankly I love the little Windsor block. What's more, it can be stroked to 351 ci, which should be enough to "do in" my buddy's Camaro. There is a lot to be said for the Buick engine though. Rover's 4.2 and 4.6 L engines are really Buicks once you scratch the paint off. And they are really lightweight, with lots of potential for hp and torque, as I understand it--they certainly are worth a look-see.
I read with much interest, the Buick V6 conversion completed by the retired firefighter. I was very impressed with the guy's work.
Thanks so much for the tips. Right now, I have a "project" car which will consume another year, but I am in the market for a "roller" PV544 which I can park off to the side for now, but use for planning purposes.
