Maybe the mice in your area have an almond stash in your muffler.

Seriously maybe you are running too rich which you can smell and it will wreck the convertor rather quickly. (it will get very, very hot) I have seen one that was white because of 2 cylinders not firing on a GM Quad 4 engine.
