Thanks for all the advice from my post about weather to buy this sucka.
I think that the great amount of information provided about this car made me more curious than cautious. So, as I went through the given list of possible problems one can expect with this model/year, I found most of them to be the case with this car. Somehow this only increased my interest…
Droped my girlfriend at the airport last night: Great on the freeway: be nicer if it shifted to fourth (downshift to 3rd light comes on) and if it let me know how fast I was going. And it registered real hot, so I ran the heat the whole way back, parked, popped the hood, and it was nice and cool inside... It clunks into second gear. Checked the tranny end of the tailshaft and it has some play – feels like 1/8”. Is it possible that the bushing ig shot and I am wearing on the housing? Muffler rattles a bit. Very few of the interior dash lights work. Two smaller alternator wires have no insulation. Oil filter is about ½” from the engine house.
Blower motor makes wind, but no noise, yet.
So, I am going to attempt the bushing replacement tomorrow. I read/printed the faq section on this job, bought bushing, seal, and gasket as well as 30mm socket, and torque wrench. I was a wee bit tempted to use the 32mm socket that I do already have but figured, this is the first attempt, better not to start with substitutions. I read that engine mounts should be changed before tranny, is that true, or should I just get the tranny mount while under there?
Does anyone have the torque specs for the four flange bolts, the 30mm bolt in shaft, the four housing bolts and the tranny mount bolts.
Any additional advice would be great too.
