Avoid idling like the plague during the first 20-30 minutes of running in a cam, prime the oiling system with a big screwdriver before dropping in the dizzy, you want to get it to atleast 2000 as it starts & not have to worry about the oil pressure coming up. Running at 2000-2500 ensures there is plenty of oil flinging around & it reduces valve spring pressure on the lobes. I use 10% moly grease on my lobes out of a 5kg can. Change the oil & filter after the initial 20-30 minute run. On my day to day clunker I change the oil & filter every 10000 miles or when it gets to low on the dipstick, which ever comes first & I use nearly any decent 15W-40 diesel engine oil.
