I needed a new sending unit on my 89, lines coming out of tpo were rusted and cracked when taking off fuel hoses.

New clamps of course.

I cut off 1/2 inch of each hose and clamped a new section, plenty of slack.

New pre-pump sock.

No sparks please :)

Be patient with the bung nut, took me 45 minutes to undo it, using a hammer and tap. New nut afterwards is a good idea.

Your main risk is the possibility of needing a new sending unit due to rusted hose.
