My experience with 544s is very limited but if they are similar to those connectors used on 122s, yes, the are 1/4"... but special types where a number of them (typically 6)lock into a housing With carefull inspection, its not too difficult to figure out the barb which locks the individual terminals into the housing...and with a dental tool, depress the barb to release the connector from the housing...clean up the connector, cut back the wire a half an inch, solder in, reinstall into housing for an invisible A1 fix.

...oxguard or any other anti-corrosive zinc paste is ALWAYS a good idea, just dont slobber it on like a drunken sailor (risk of making a short through the paste is pretty low in a low voltage car ele-system anyway though...). See also: http://www.intelab.com/swem/anti_corrosive_paste.htm
