What is this threaded hole for on the block??? 700

why is the alternator on the passenger side? they should be mounted on the drivers side above the AC compressor, the Power Stearing pump should be on the pass side low.
On my B230FT 1989 764 that hole has what looks like the oil pressure sensor screwed into it exact location.
