Resolution of the differential issues, hopefully 120-130 1966

I think the best way is to get a dial indicator, assemble it and see just
how much end play you have. The elasticity, compressed microscopic dirt,
surface waviness, etc combined to make the measurement of multiple shims a
guess at best. For sure you want to have enough shims that it doesn't get
tight when you tighten the bolts (zero or negative clearance) because this
adds extra preload to the bearings.
