The AW40 transmission is a different beast than those found on the 200 series. First, there is no drain plug, as there is no servicing interval for it, but Vovlo gives the refill amount as a little over 5 quarts. The pan is sealed with a sealant not a gasket. I've had the transmission fluid changed on both of my 960 series cars; one early on @ 24K and the other one late at about 88K. I put synthetic in both of them, and have had no leaks. I don't plan to do it again. Volvo doesn't even mention replacing the AFT on severe service vehicles like police and taxis.
