Removing the "divider" (which, I can't recall seeing) if they meant a slight ridge between the valve seats, can help promote scavenging by smoothing the flow between the valves and reducing the opportunity for a "hot-spot". It will also reduce the compression (very slightly).

The hot compression check is a very good idea.

Otherwise, getting a Bosch FI manual is pretty much mandatory as opposed to shooting in the dark.
