Adjusting the kickdown cable will definitely change all the shift points. That's why you do it.
The kickdown cable controls the balance between road speed (governor input) and demand (throttle input). If the balance is too far towards throttle input, road speed is less of a factor in determining shift points. In fact, if adjusted all the way towards throttle input, it may never shift out of 1st gear! Conversely, if it's all the way towards governor input, it may upshift but never downshift, even with wide-open throttle, until you come to a complete stop.
If you drive responsibly, adjusting this cable will probably not cause damage. You can make small adjustments until it feels right to you. There is also a lengthy section in the FAQ or any repair manual regarding the correct adjustment.
