door latch 140-160

Four things to look into:

Door seals are old and hardening. Won't cause all the problem but is certainly a mitigating factor, esp. if the doors were adjusted to eliminate a draft or noise at some point.

Door latch mechanism is old and full of hardened grease and dirt. VERY common. Best thing to do is remove them, clean thoroughly and re-lube. Checking for broken or missing bits is a good idea too (esp springs).

Door striker is shoved in too far. Typical of an adjustment to correct noise or leaky seals. Also possible that it worked loose and is cocked (twisted) preventing nice engagement.

Door hinges are old and sagging. Check the way the door moves as it is opened or closed. A door that seems to clunk into place and rise or fall a little when engaging with the latch is a prime candidate for new hinges or pins. Sometimes adjusting will take care of it.

I'd suggest pulling the latch mechanism and giving a thorough going-over before looking into the other issues. I had a door once (not a Volvo) that would not latch unless you slammed it shut and held it there for a good ten count! Cleaning and lubing worked like magic.
