Not sure if this appies to your case.

My car would idle fine for a few minutes till it warmed up then it would drive like crap, it would surge suddenly gain power and then lose it completly. It ended up being the O2 sensor causing it to run lean once it warmed up. If your symptoms apply when the car is cold then it is probably not the 02 sensor.
