I have noted that in old ignitions with old keys the pressure of the key in the slot can make a difference. Have her try turning the key with the key shoved in as hard as possible and then relaxed, and then slight pressure "out" etc...
Advanced users can try turning the key while simultaneously jiggling it up and down, side to side, in and out and wiggling the steering wheel!
