Pulled an engine/tranny from the yard - what should I do before swapping... 700

I agree with JohnB about the timing belt. I bought a 245 that had had the timing belt done less than 10k from when I bought it and it broke and left me stranded. Talked to the shop that did the belt and it had been years and years ago and it had just degraded from sitting there. I am not sure if this is any easier to change out of the car though, but it will give you a good excuse to change all of the front seals; remember there may not be a "seating flange" to seat the seals upon and if you keep driving them in hoping to seat them they will eventually go all of the way into the case!
You should let us know how the swap goes. Does the junkyard you pulled it from score the engine and trans before they put it in the yard? Some give it a rating if they can drive it based on running and shifting.
How much did you have to pay for the whole shebang?
