Considering the widest stock Volvo wheel of the pre-75 era is 5.5" that is
a pretty wide wheel. I'm using small-brand 195 or 205-75/15 tires on stock
122 wagon wheels and they are a bit stiff to steer when standing still
(parallel parking) but otherwise fine. I think those rims are 4.5" wide.
They even look pretty normal on the 122 wagon.
Basically if the hub of the wheel is aluminum or mag, you will need either
very deep nuts or long lug bolts. The full thickness of the chamfered hole
in a standard steel rim is about ¼" and if it gets a LOT more than that
the nuts will not engage enough threads unless they are tubular and sink
into the wheel, or unless you have extra long lugbolts. I have heard
(but have not checked it out on my own) that while Volvo lug bolts are
standard ½"-20UNF threads the shoulder length is a little unusual and
longer ones that fit right are kinda hard to find.
