I think it all comes to, what do you want?
I have had 18" x 8" inch alloy wheels on a 1967 sedan - with 225/40 ZR18 tyres front and 245/45 ZR18 in rear - and mind: All without any change of wheel archs, on stock springs, full steering capacity and only specialized item was the spacer. The tyres did though on high speed over bumps, touch the wheel arch in rear.

The wheels are for an Audi S8 - Avantgarde rims.. Pictures? ->>
