OK, so I'm the dork. Breaking out the flashlight I came across what remained of the fan/alternator belt. Pretty shreaded. Thanks for the help. You guys are the first thought in my mind when things go wrong (which seems like all too often lately). Probably should wait next time. Replaced all the belts, but couldn't face up to the timing belt just yet. Hopefully things will stay put.
