Fender Issues!! 120-130

I got fender issues!!

The front fenders on my recently acquired 66 coupe have rust issues. Reall ythe only place on the whole car too!

The inner panel at the rear of the fender is pretty bad. The exterior skin is relatively easy stuff to repair the small holes but the inner reinforcement is pretty bad, top and bottom. That is, as you all know, a pretty complex stamping.

My question is: does anyone out there have any mangled fenders that have rust free inner panels. My thought is to extract the inner panel from an otherwise rust free crunched fender and rebuild my repairable outer shells. Interestingly, the fronts of my fenders are outstanding.

Has any one done this! I just priced new fenders and we are talking about $570 ea. That ain't bad, but I have a "wee bit o' scotch" in me like George. Looks like the inner panels are held in with just a few stitch welds on the flanges and some spot welds top and bottom.

Maybe just live with it and keep an eye out for rust free replacements? Maybe bide my time instead of throwing moner at the problem?

I hate to steal the fenders off my wagon, which are pristine.

Your thoughts please!

Good fenders anyone??

Cheers!

Mike
