Fading Lights then dead batt after restart

I been having a wierd problem with my car, I recently put in
a new harness and got the car running again. I would be driving
down the road and the car int & ext ligts would dim then I shut
the car down and the batt dies. It only does it sometimes.
I pulled the - Cable from the batt to see if the alt was dead.
It runs great but the power gets higher when disconnected from the batt.
Also the int guage warning lights turn on sometimes when the key is on.
