I'm guessing the rear defroster kit is designed to repair a very stiff assembly which your board is not. I'll place money that you end up doing the jumper bit. Solder isn't a good "bridge" either as evidenced by all the old style relays that need to be re-soldered. (Thankfully they don't seem to built that way any more.)
