In my experience, yes. Any Bosch sensor will fit a Volvo that calls for a Bosch zirconia sensor. If we lined up 25 Bosch sensors with the connectors cut off of them, you would not be able to tell the difference amoung them.
The article in the above reply is interesting -- and like you have would want to ask some follow-up questions to the author.
But I can tell you this definatively: I have had Ford sensors spliced in on both my '93 945T and my '92 190E for almost a year. Gas milage has not suffered, and I have had no fault codes. Furthermore, when I removed the old sensors, they looked exactly the same as the new ones I was installing.
Let me propose this descenting hypothisis: That Bosch makes all their sensors the same, and that engineers from each manufacturer designs their engine management system to match the established Bosch standard. This would seem to make financial sense (in my humble opinion).
