Dear Gary,
Good p.m. and thanks for the reference. I read the article.
I wouldn't consider - for even a micro-second - using a "no-name" sensor. That's why I was careful, to refer only to interchangeability among Bosch-brand sensors.
I understand that the oxygen sensors, used in cars with Rex/Regina fuel/ignition systems, are very different from - and absolutely not interchangeable with - oxygen sensors used in Bosch fuel management systems.
Nothing in that article - unless I missed it - addresses the question of interchangeability among oxygen sensors made by the OEM manufacturer, in this case, Bosch.
The only caution I found in the article, has to do with the splicing of wires. In terms of splicing wires to Oxygen sensors,I am not clear on two points:
(a)whether the use of shrink wrap over a splice, will interfere with sensor operation
(b) whether soldering the wires, degrades the sensor's signal quality, and so interferes with sensor operation.
Do you have any experience, with using a Bosch/Volvo sensor, other than the one specified for your particular model/year? Did it work properly? Was the only different between that sensor, and the one you replaced, the format of the connector?
Is it the sensor head, that varies from Make/Model year, is the connector, or do both vary?
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
Yours faithfully,
spook
