The kits will have everything for your carb with lots of extra stuff besides. Just replace what you remove and all will be swell.
Earlier Strombergs that did not have the "S" designation were non temp compensated and far easier to tune as you could do it from the outside without having to dink with the compensator stuff.
If your diaphrams are in good overall condition (very flexible and no holes, cracks or splits) then the uneven opening is likely due to unbalanced flow.
I suggest you get a secondary reference such as the Haynes Stromberg CD manual. Seeing as Burlen Fuel Systems now remanufactures Zenith-Stromberg carbs and parts (as well as SU, Amal, etc...) getting a manual from them should be possible, not to mention all the bits and pieces (such as matched springs and new throttle shafts).
