there is nothing wrong with trying to build up a 305. there are some 10-11sec 305s out there. however i would suggest atleast upgrading your exhaust. a lot of cams require either ported exhaust manifolds and a min of 2.5in exhuast, or headers and a 2.5 or bigger exhaust and if its auto its best to have a stall, if those desires arent met, the cam will be a waste. and if and when u do decide to get a cam i would switch my motor over to a roller. i have a LT1 with a TCI 3500 stall that i picked up at a junk yard for $17. i have stock LT1 manifolds they were ported at the local machine shop, i have 3in down pipes, to an X pipe and thats it for right now with the exhaust, my choice of cam was a CC 305 which is rather streetable. that came out of my 95 Z28 cause i upgraded that to a CC306 which isnt the easiest streetable cam. i know all that was uncalled for i just felt like typing, so i say get a cam if you want, u can order crane, and comp cams cats for free from the website they will help u will pickin a good cam, and they have 800#s and the people on the other end of the phone provide some great assistance they will let u know what cams are ok to run with a basically stock exhaust and converter. get one of thier opinions
