hate to say this but it sounds like your garage doesn't know what they're doing.

Have you tried the car with the original TCU?
Was the replacement TCU for the same MY car? Volvo has a habit of doing little changes every year that make it hard to know if computers are compatible or not.

Have you changed the fluid? A simple fluid change should always be your first course of action with a modern auto trans, esp these ones.

If it's a good car you should be able to get a used trans with a warranty installed for less money than a new/another car. Say it costs $1000 to fix your trans - where can you get a car as good as your 850 for $1000?
