Transmission shot or not? Help! 850

Just got back from garage and got the skinny - will not shift correctly and torque converter is locking up

I found the TCU on ebay correct Volvo Part number 3515258 6.3 cp 09 the old tcu was same bosch number but 3515258 but cp08. Plus I had a unit from a 93 that was 4.3 but different number from the 3515258 - we did not use that one.

Both TCUs responded the same way to the new solenoids. Another issue is that the s1 and s2 were green connector in the car. The kit contained all three (S1 and 2 are same shape - SL diff shape - all green connectors. The suppler (electrical advantage on ebay) said there was another kit that had all brown connecters but very rare on us models.

The old SL that came out was grey (or worm brown?) and the new SL put in was green - a mixed batch - wtf!. So the dilema is whether the SL solenoid is correct and that's what's acting up. I really don't want my garage to spend more time taking out the new SL and putting the old one back. I thought the kit was great to replace all three instead of just 1 and 2! As usual, I screwed the pooch by trying to save dough.

Even FCP sells the Volvo OEM and they have green connectors on S1 and S2 but I did not check the OEM on the SL solenoid.

My garage is great and i have know them for over 30 years, but they don't really work on transmissions and I begged them to go for this solenoid replacement if I supplied the parts - so i really don't hold them responsible. The oem Volvo solenoids from FCP would have been $350 and Still could have the same issue. Actually, the other trans shops I contacted don't even want to mess with the solenoids and just put in reman transmissions. Nobody rebuilds anything anymore.

So I am hosed on this one and am thinking of junking the car as a non-running 94 850 is not worth much more than $300 around here. I owe them probably $300 for the work done and the car is toast! That's what happens when you roll the dice - this only my second volvo that ever had a trans crap out.

Oh, the fluid was clean ( I change 3 qts out each oil change) and I had a magnefine inline filter on it.

Just kinda Volvo sad today. The shop thought about putting the old SL back in, but the time to do it sucks.
