My car which was picked up July 1, 2000 has 5400 miles and I've been monitoring the coolant level at least once per week since reading postings several months ago about some members reporting a mysterious loss of coolant.
Today when I started the car the "low coolant" warning msg displayed saying stop engine immediately. I did and checked the coolant. It was right at the MIN level. I had checked it about a week ago and it was at a level its been ever since July 1 (just below MAX level).
The only change I find significant at this point is that I've 5400 miles and the winter temperatures are setting in. This morning it was around 40 deg F.
I topped the expansion tank up to the MAX level and went about my business.
Comments?
I wonder if this is an issue with both S80 2.9 and T6 engines or just the T6 engine. Has anyone heard about this happening with 2.9 engines.
What would cause such a sudden decrease of coolant? Would lower morning temps cause adjacent engine components to cause increased gaps allowing coolant to escape into oil passages or the exhaust system somehow?
