850 vs 240 850

Hello all!!! I am looking into buying a new car next summer. I currently own a 1990 240dl. I either want another 240 or and 850, but I don't know much about 850s. Does anyone know how the reliability is compared to 240s, and the saftey, and gas mileage. Anything would help and be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! ~Seth
