850 vs 240 850

I think the 240 came out in '74 or '75 and the 850 in '92, so the 850 is 17 or 18 years newer in terms of technology. More luxurious, better performance, more safety features. However, along with that comes a level of complexity that the 240 doesn't have. There are more things to break on an 850 and when they break they tend to be more expensive. I have never owned a 240 so I can't compare real world reliability. Good luck.
