Find an Autozone or Pepboys and get the engine codes read and deleted. If the code is for an O2 sensor, look for a vacuum leak.
As for the tranny, I believe it is closed in 2001. It specifies that you use Volvo very expensive fluid, why I don't know. The dip stick for "older" models is under the air intake just behind the radiator on the driver's side.
