Check all the items Bill mentions.

Most common problems are air pump (emissions system) and AC. There are posts around here about drilling one or two small drain holes in the pump to allow drainage of condensate to avoid premature replacement of the pump.

Overall, FWDs are great. Two of my three Volvos are FWD.
