The car you're looking at is in my opinion better than an 850 and also better than the later '99 on up V70's until you get to '02 then they improve with every year. However, at those miles, be prepared for some major maintenance. If the shocks/struts haven't been changed, that's needed as well as a Timing belt, serpentine belt, all of the tensioners, rollers, pulleys for the TB, the water pump and WP gasket at just a few miles (140K miles). Make sure the PCV system isn't clogged and you have no leaks- especially the rear main seal ($1000 to separate the engine from the transmission for this). Also, since it's winter time, most don't check it, but make sure the A/C works. The evaporator on these are a weak point and when they go it's another $1000+ to have it replaced as the entire dash has to come out of the car to get to it. Also, make sure no check engine light is on. Anyway, even if everything checks out, you'll put at least $2000 or so into this car over the next year or so at those miles, but once you're past all the maintenance items, you'll be clear sailing for at least 70K miles more.
