timing belt replacement question V70-XC70 1999

It is fine checking, not real cracks, but I have a new belt and tensioner waiting in the garage . . . waiting for the garage floor to warm up a bit. Ice stopped forming on it a few days ago, so things are improving.

I'm also waiting to hear the outcome of non-running engine saga before I proceed. I'm guessing that turning the camshafts of a VVT engine without the belt in place creates problems. I also checked the IPD website and discovered that their handy locking tool is for pre-VVT engines.
