Hello again herbertcat. I looked around tonight, and decided tentatively on an Equus 3030 scanner. KAL and Actron seem to both be brands owned by a company called SPX. I saw one '99 Volvo owner uses Equus successfully. The KAL unit seems to be discontinued, but they do have later models. I chose based on price...

It sounds like a combination of sources (including this site) may be used if I hit a code I don't have info for. AllDataDIY looks like an interesting "pay to use" site, and I wonder if anyone here has used it. There is a possibility Volvo-unique codes would be available there.
