Yes, in principle what you propose is correct. (Hope this isn't insulting but make sure that you take note of the thread direction on each rod). Obviously it ought to be easier for them as they can do all the adjustment in one go, rather than incrementally.

It is possible that your tires are influencing it but I would have expected wear that uneven to be quite visible. Have you tried rotating the tyres ie front to rear ? Inflation pressures even ? Can't think of much else...
