Some time ago I made a PS repair and installed magnefine filter in return line to catch all possible dirt from ps fluid. a strong magnet takes metal parts only.

I also weakly remember reading about stiff steering not being a ps failure but worn out wheel support structure, where the wagon weight on wheel plays crucial role.
