It turned out to be a faulty control module. By the time I took the car to a professional, I had lost the rear wiper, defogger, reserve lights and rear door locks. They took the module apart, it looked clean, put it back together and everything worked ... for now. There may be a weak connection somewhere on the module but at $1000 replacement cost, I think I'll nurse this along for a while. Thanks for your help.
