Your first guess regarding the PCV and/or vacuum lines probably the best. The right hand motor mount under the timing belt is also suspect, just because of age.

The timing is controlled by vacuum pressure which also determines fuel/air ratio. A check of the spark plugs may show that they are wet if the vacuum is low. When is the last time the rotor and cap were replaced?
