An AC shop can do a dye check for leaks and/or can check how much refrigerant ther is left in the system. If there is less than there was when the car left the factory, well, it went SOMEWHERE! As long as you can document that there is a problem before the warranty expires you (and your lawyer) should have a case if the evaporator completely fails within a reasonable amount of time.
My old SAABs had the evaporator located in the air-intake plenum, not buried at the center of the dashboard and guarded by two armed bombs! This is an EXCEPTIONALLY poor design!
