why are volvos also known as bricks 850

Volvo's inherited the name "bricks" because of their boxy appearance as indicated above. However, the term really applied to the infamous 240 series. Although I believe they will always keep this nickname, the Volvo's of today certainly could use another term to describe them. There's nothing brick about them anymore.
