Traction control is like any other feature. You need to know when to depend on it and when to turn it off. An experieced driver always beats out the inexperieced... no matter what they are both driving.
When the snow driving gets tough here in the northeast, I prefer to turn off traction control if I want to climb a hill or if I need to get out of deep snow. On the highway, however, it is a valuable safety feature. On ice it's indispensable. But you still can't stop any better than anyone else. That's why you see so many SUVs in the ditch.
FWD with good snows is tough to beat unless you have AWD like the Audi Quattro.
RWD is the worst no matter how good a driver you think you might be.
