I saw $539 in the archives, so $650 seems in the "ballpark" including the pastel-decorated dealer service waiting area and the espresso machine and the S80 loaner car. You can probably do better if you can find a tame independent Volvo shop and/or track down the parts yourself through one of the parts discounters like Nils Sefeldt Volvo. The "tailgate repair kit" is $22 from IPD (ipdusa.com) and there is a similar kit available through Volvo dealers with a Volvo parts number. Am I surprised that they didn't mention it? Once the warranty expires on Volvos it's critical to find an independent shop and learn to use a wrench on occasion.
Evn if you do, IMO AWD V70s are sooooo complex that reasonable maintainance costs are a pipe dream no matter what.
They're offering "deals" right now on Lexus RX300s, I hear.
