which one should i try and buy? V70-XC70

having decided that our family's next car should be a volvo wagon of some sort (with a turbo), i'm having a hard time finding lot's of data on the differences between model-years and so on. lt looks like my budget will allow a '97 or a '98 (which i believe means v7o), possibly a '96 (which i believe means an 850).

how can i find out things like:

which safety features came out when?

any ultra-compelling reasons to shell-out for a newer model?

difference between a t5, an "r" and a sportwagon?

is the built-in childseat standard?

is it my imagination or do the older ones appear roomier?

i'm strongly considering ebay. any thoughts/ warnings?
